Calgary SCOPE Society

Provides counseling for parents and families who have a child ages 0-18 with a disability. To be eligible, families need to have approved counseling hours included in their child’s FSCD contract. Private Service Dog Assessments (Government of Alberta)

If you already have a have a dog that you believe is trained well enough to qualify as an official service dog, it’s possible to have you and the animal assessed by the Government of Alberta in order to receive the official certification. Proof of the dog’s good health and temperament must be assured, and the dog and handler will be assessed on their ability to deal with a variety of situations and challenges. More detailed information on the assessment process and eligibility requirements can be found on the Government of Alberta website.

PEERS-YA (University of Calgary)

PEERS-YA (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Social Skills for Young Adults) is designed for adults ages 19-28 with autism who are themselves motivated and interested to participate. The program consists of evidence-based and empirically-supported interventions designed to help motivated adults learn how to make and keep friends. Individuals are taught and shown important social skills, and are given the opportunity to practice these skills during socialization activities.

Community Kitchen (Calgary Women’s Centre)

The Community Kitchen program is for women with developmental disabilities. It includes finding recipes and cooking group meals to making crafts and planning activities together, offers participants opportunities to learn new skills, build relationships and get involved with the community. The program runs every second Friday from Sept-June, and once a month in July/Aug. Individuals can register on the website, or drop-in.

Exceptional Abilities Educational Consultation & Tutoring

Exceptional Abilities Education Consulting and Tutoring has a youth & adult support includes Career Connections program offering career coaching, skills training, and mentorship. Their unique Adapted Learn to Drive program adapts driver’s education for neurodiverse learners and individuals who benefit from tailored instruction. Lessons focus on building confidence, safety awareness, and mastery of both technical and social aspects of driving. They also offer workshops for students, parents and educators.
