Alto: With Alto, families can hire respite workers, behavioural aides, community aides, and more. There are no extra fees and no weekly or monthly minimums, all families pay is the hourly rate of their caregiver. Families are also able to choose their own caregiver from Alto, so they get reliable care from someone that fits their family, at an hourly rate that works for them. A credit card is required to keep on file, but payment can also be made via e-transfer. Alto has worked with families using FSCD, PDD, and more.

 


Autism Asperger’s Friendship Society:
Provides respite care in a group recreational environment for children and youth on the Autism Spectrum. FSCD direct billing available.

Babysits: an online platform where parents easily can find an experienced babysitter who can take care of their child with special needs. With the Babysits for Special Needs program, you can find a babysitter who has experience with special needs, see their references, and background check documents. This way you are able to find a trustworthy, caring, and specialized babysitter for your child. Note that in order to use certain features (messaging and paying directly through the platform, for instance) a paid account is needed.

 

Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC): Agency that provides respite through their Comprehensive Care program, as well as other disability-related services. Provide services to individuals with FSCD or PDD contracts only.

Enable: Matches people with disabilities to support workers based on shared interests, scheduling needs, and location. Casual, part-time and full-time support workers available. Monthly events and group activities are also available for matches.

 

Entrust Disability Services: Entrust provides innovative, best-practice care to their clients. They develop unique, personalized care plans so that you can provide complete, effective care to your loved one.

Hispir Care: Provides quality behavioural/developmental aide and respite aide services that align seamlessly with existing BDS or SS contracts through FSCD. Their dedicated aides collaborate closely with the family’s clinicians to create customized intervention plans, ensuring each session is tailored to the child’s development. Committed to empowering families, offering support in navigating complex programs, and making it convenient by conducting sessions in the family’s home or community. Meeting an aide is typically 2-3 weeks.

Just 4 U Family Services: Provides 24/7 services for special needs infants to adults. Sibling care is also provided at an additional rate. Direct billing to FSCD. PDD Family Managed approved.

navigate for kids: An online tool to help find disability related resources for families with children up to 18 years of age with developmental disabilities in Calgary. It was created to help parents/guardians, educators and professionals find supports specific to the child’s needs. It is a free web application available in Tagalog, Punjabi, Chinese and Arabic languages.

 

Play In The Sun Inc.: Provides a University model for children, youth, young adults and/or professionals in career transitions. Their program emphasizes individualized learning through a combination of in-person and online methods. Play in the Sun Inc serves the community by promoting a balanced approach to education, encompassing technology, outdoor activities. Providing therapy supports (OT/BC/Therapy Assistants and Respite as well as community aides.

Post Natal Helpers Ltd: Offers a wide range of respite services, including part-time care for children aged up to 6 years, including children with specials needs.

Responsive Children’s Supports: Provides two types of respite services: In-home and facility-based (Kidz Hotel). Both services are designed to serve the needs of children/adolescents with a disability who experience emotional, behavioural challenges.

Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA): Their Children’s Services offers respite services for children with complex medical needs. Participants must be under the age of 18, have a diagnosed developmental disability, and require partial to total assistance with activities of daily living.

  • The Facebook group Connecting Autism Professionals & Families – Calgary and Area is an established platform for caregivers and respite providers looking to connect. Note that the group is private; those wishing to view or create posts must request permission from the moderators to join.
  • There are post secondary students looking for respite work through: Mount Royal University (Social Work students,  Disability Studies, Nursing, Early Childhood Education students); U of C (Disability Studies, Nursing, Education etc.), Columbia College (Human Services) & Bow Valley College (Disability Studies).
