Prairie Hub, AIDE Canada

c/o Autism Calgary

Project Overview:

Information for Self-Advocates – by Self Advocates. This is the theme and motivation for the Prairie Hub’s 2020 ‘Self Advocate Virtual Resource Project’. As part of this project, AIDE Canada’s Prairie Hub will contract numerous autistic adults from across all three provinces in the Prairies to create informational resources on issues facing other autistic adults across the Prairies within the following five topic areas:

1. Getting an ASD Diagnosis as an Adult: Navigating Regional Diagnostic Resources in Saskatchewan

2. Disability Benefits and Government Resources: Navigating Government Disability Resources in Saskatchewan

3. Home Sweet Home: Affordable and Accessible Housing in Saskatchewan

4. All in a Day&arsquo;s Work: Employment in Saskatchewan

5. Bridge Building: Peer Networking and Developing your Circle of Social Supports as an Autistic Adult

Project Goals:

  • 1-5 informational resources on each topic above for the Prairie context (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba). 15 Resources will be developed in total.

  • Self-advocates can submit an application to develop one or more resources on the topics listed above (maximum of two applications per individual)

Scope of Work:

Each resource must be informed by the lived experience of not less than 2-3 diffgerent self-advocates (one of whom could be the resource developer). How you collaborate and work with these other self-advocates is at the discretion of the Resource Producer. Successful applicants will be given mentorship, technical support and coaching from staff from Autism Calgary, Autism Edmonton, Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo or The Sinneave Family Foundation. A professional graphic designer and a video-editing professional will also be contracted to complete the design and layout work of the various resources and to provide a unified look to all 15 resources developed. These resources will then be available online through AIDE Canada, as well as the various partner organizations in the Prairie Hub collaborative. Written resource should be 2-5 pages in length and can take a variety of formats (booklet, brochure, etc.). Video, audio or other multimedia resources should be 2-5 minutes in length. Although resources can include practical and “how-to” types of information we encourage applicants to produce resources that focus on the lived experience of self-advocates regarding the topic areas. We are looking for a wide variety of applicants, that represents the diversity of the autism community.
