A note from the Project Coordinator:
My name is Laura Locke, and I am the Coordinator of a brand new initiative at Autism Calgary.  It’s called “Supports for Aging Caregivers”.  My husband and I fall into the category of “aging caregivers”, as we have a son on the Autism Spectrum who is 26 years old.  We thought you would like to hear more about this initiative, as we believe many of you, like us, might have questions and worries about the future. This new project aims to discover ways that we can best come alongside you and support you in your role as parent and caregiver. We want to find out your needs and concerns, and do our best to help address them. The project has three major activities planned:
  • Parent Panel Event on Nov. 21 (see information above)
  • Information Package about community and government supports
  • New Autism Calgary Library section for adults with ASD and aging caregivers

If you have a teenager or adult on the Autism Spectrum, we would love to find out more about your own personal journey, and any pressing issues on your mind as you think about the future. We want to help you, and we also need your input and ideas for this new initiative.

Please consider joining us for at a special event: A Focus Group Lunch  for Aging Caregivers on Tuesday, October 9th at 12 p.m. at the Autism Calgary office (3639 – 26 St. NE).  Lunch will be provided, and we plan to wrap things up by about 1:30 p.m.  There is no cost. To register please click the link above.

We hope you can join us on October 9th!

Warmest regards,   Laura Locke
