“Asperger Marriage: Viewing Partnerships through a Different Lens”.

Life with an ASD shapes an individual’s reality in a very unique way. The impact of an ASD is also felt by the entire family as parents, siblings and even spouses adjust or shape their lifestyle and expectations to better respond to the demands of a family affected by Autism.

The following article acknowledges the unique dynamics of NT/AS marriages, primarily focusing on the experiences of NT wives. It was written by the Asperger’s Association of New England with the anonymous input of support group participants. NT women in NT/AS relationships often come to support groups with a long history of their social and/or emotional needs being left unmet. The article also brings to light AS men’s perspective and challenges in the couple, with the intent to help bridge the gap between AS and NT spouses rather than blame either or partner for the state of unhappiness in the marriage.
