Last November, we hosted our first stakeholder engagement in Red Deer, and our vision for the alliance came to life.
Autism Alberta’s Alliance is a collaboration. A knowledge hub. An advocate. An educator. It speaks with a unified voice to raise awareness about autism, cultivate acceptance, and foster accommodation across the lifespan and across all areas of Alberta to enhance the lives of individuals and families with autism.
On October 15, we will be hosting the official launch of our alliance. The theme of the day will be Building a Continuum of Opportunity. Participants will enjoy a day of facilitated conversations and community-building activities. The intention is to provoke audience engagement in identifying short- and long-term actions for stakeholders and our emerging alliance in order to make progress in improving the quality of life for those living with autism in Alberta.
We have lined up some fantastic presentations throughout the day. Capture the status of Diagnostics from Dr. Lonnie Zwaigenbaum, a developmental pediatrician and clinician-scientist at the University of Alberta, and Dr. David Nicholas, a professor at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Social Work. They will be joined by several panelists including Dr. Greg Skinner, a physician specializing in adult Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.
Interested in Mental Health? Hear from Dr. Katelyn Lowe, Chief Strategy Officer with the Sinneave Family Foundation, and panelists like Dr. Shane Lynch, a seasoned registered psychologist with a PhD in Special Education.
Explore Navigation and Transition Planning from a provincial perspective. Engage with Autism Calgary, Autism Edmonton, Chinook Autism Society, Lethbridge, Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and our rural board member Kitty Parlby.
Have you thought about Who Will Take Care of Our Kids? What does the future look like? Carolyn Dudley will guide us through the gaps and issues.
We hope you are able to join us to help launch Autism Alberta’s Alliance. Together, we can continue to bring support and hope to all Albertans living with autism and be the vehicle for change.
