Specialized Services and FSCD/PUF common approach

Specialized Services are funded by FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities). They are intended to support families of children with severe disabilities or delays in at least 2 areas to learn specific skills and strategies to support their child’s development at home and in the community. Each family has a individualized plan with goals to meet their needs and priorities. Specialized Services are intensive in nature, providing a maximum of 20 hours of Aide support and up to 48 hours of consultation with each therapist per year (SLP, OT, Psychologist, PT) based on the child’s main areas of disability/delay.

Some service providers may offer FSCD rates, however not all professionals within an organization charge the same, so some may still require parents to top-up the rate. Please check in with each service provider individually.

Linked Platform

Easter Seals and Children’s Link Society joined forces and are now operating solely under Easter Seals Alberta. They have an online platform called LINKED that lists many resources, services, supports and more (BDS, SS, Mental Health, Education and other supportive agencies). They also offer Transition to Adulthood support and have a Family Support Team through their FRC.

Navigate for Kids

Navigate for kids is an online tool to help find disability related resources for families with children (up to 18 years of age) with developmental disabilities in Calgary. It is available in additional languages including Tagalog, Punjabi, Chinese and Arabic. There are different areas of support available including Behavioural Developmental Supports (BDS), Specialized Services (SS), respite, counselling, social rec, transportation and transition to adult support.

Achievements Unlimited

Specializes in providing services to both preschool and school-aged children with FSCD funded contracts. Offers a wide range of therapy services tailored to address various developmental needs. Neuro-affirming and trauma-informed approach, creating a playful, nurturing, and validating environment for children. Therapy sessions take place in the child’s home. Can also meet in community locations to support the child/family’s needs.

A Heart for Families

Provides services to individuals of any age. Can work with a child’s PUF provider to offer a common approach. Relocating operations to Carstairs, so serves the communities of Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs, Crossfield, and Airdrie. No longer providing services in Calgary.

Airdrie Foundation 4 Early Childhood Intervention (Inspiration Station)

Airdrie Foundation 4 Early Childhood Intervention is a private ECS operator providing services at Inspiration Station (an independent preschool in Airdrie) and at The Village Kindergarten. They offer a common approach to provide Specialized Services to children enrolled in their PUF program. They have very specific suitability criteria and a child’s primary diagnosis should be communication delays and/or disorders. Contact them to determine eligibility/suitability for programming.

Is an approved provider of SLP services through FSCD. Provides traditional and alternative speech-language programming, including nature and/or community based intervention. Offering both individual services and social-language therapy play groups. Area of expertise is nature based therapy for children of all abilities; SLP supports for newcomer and/or trauma impacted families. Provides SLP services – speech, expressive & receptive language, literacy, social communication and various assessments. Willing to work within an MDT. Works within FSCD rates. Ascend Pediatrics Offers in-home Private Therapy Support Services in Cochrane, Canmore, Chestermere, Banff, Airdrie, and Calgary, AB. Their service providers are approved to work within FSCD contracts. The Canadian Centre for Development is a private provider of FSCD’s Behaviour Developmental Support and Specialized Services. They also offer recreational activities, respite, social activities, camps and more. Their services take place in their agency space, the community, family home, preschools and virtually. They are able to coordinate an MDT. Kids ETC offers assessment, diagnostic, and treatment services for children and adolescents with a variety of presenting difficulties. They provide a series of treatments to help improve cognitive, social, play, adaptive and communication skills in their agency space or the family home. They offer services for FSCD’s BDS and SS contracts and are able to coordinate an MDT and also offer Psychoeducational Assessments.

New Heights Home and Community Support (HCS) is a unique program for children 2.5 to 5 years old that supports both Specialized Services and BDS FSCD Agreements. All HCS needs to begin providing in-person 1-1 support in your home with your child, is your child’s approved FSCD Agreement. They support children directly in the areas of self care skills, communication, sensory support, transitions to full day school, social skills and gross/fine motor skills and more. Parent Priorities are supported by Therapist(s) and an intervention aide in your home to practice with your child and coach you as a parent how to increase your child’s skills in the areas parents would like help with.

Pacekids Programs supports children with diverse needs and their families through therapy, education, and play. Pacekids is a qualified provider of Specialized Services and works with children from six months to 10 years of age, based on clinical discretion.
