What is an Occupational Therapist?
As rehabilitation professionals, occupational therapists are trained in physical and mental health to help people recover from injury or illness, maximize ability following permanent loss or developmental disability, and regain life roles following mental illness.

Betsy Care Solutions: Offers Occupational Therapy services for children with Autism and other diagnoses. In-person sessions are available at the child’s home. With over twenty years of experience in Occupational Therapy, they provide support for feeding, sleep, toileting, dressing, sensory processing, regulation, fine motor skills, and executive functioning.
Bridging Abilities: Focuses on growth and connections with thier families and communities. Their team has behaviour consultants, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and counsellors that work with families in achieving goals.
Calgary Youth Physiotherapy: At Calgary Youth Physiotherapy (CYP), they think kids are pretty cool! Their skilled team of paediatric physiotherapists understand that kids’ bodies are different from adults, and that their development, pain, and injuries need to be treated differently. Their goal is to help young people and the young at heart feel their best and develop to their full potential while having FUN! They are a very unique clinic because they treat not only acute orthopedic and sport injuries, but also complex or chronic neurological conditions such as gross motor delay, coordination issues, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, children with autism, and many other complex conditions. Gruber, Teunisje: Works with self-advocating adolescents (17+) and adults to promote life skill development (e.g., independent living skills, social skills, education, and work). Provides assessment for sensory processing differences and education on lifestyle changes (“Sensory Diet”).
Heysel, Lesley: Works privately and through FSCD with preschoolers and school aged children specializing with sensory integration, fine motor, ASD, graphics, ADLs and behaviour.
Intuitive Therapy Solutions Ltd.: This a community-based private Pediatric Therapy practice serving Airdrie, Calgary, and surrounding area families with children aged 0-18, specializing in Feeding Therapy. They currently offer Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Behavioural Consultation, Registered Dietitian, Feeding Therapy, and aide support services in-home and virtually. Alberta-wide Teletherapy is also now available; as part of this, they offer a 15-minute complimentary phone consult to support people in finding the best fit for their family. This organization has the ability to support FSCD contracts, including Behavioural Developmental Supports (BDS), Specialized Services (SS), and coordination services.
Journey OT Inc.: Journey OT provides private OT therapy services in-home, at preschools/daycares, and within the community. The OT services will aim to support the child and family in learning strategies to address areas of self-care, household chores, sensory regulation, emotional regulation, attention, focus, play, social skills, and routines. Occupational therapy, Speech/language pathology services, Behaviour psychology, Behavioural Support (only offered if the individual have a therapist with Journey OT) & Assessments are offered. Their services are play-based and they take the time to build proper relationships with all the children we work with. Services can be covered through approved FSCD coverage and personal insurance plans.
McIntosh, Karen: Private Clients in the South of Calgary, Ages 4 to 16 years old with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, DCD, and Learning Disabilities as well as adults in the area of Sensory Processing Disorder.
Miron, Allison: Offers community-based occupational therapy services in the comfort of the home or community. Is currently taking clients with FSCD funding or privately. Allison specializes in the following areas: strengthening the muscles in the hands to improve coordination (fine motor skills); supporting big emotions for small events (emotional regulation); helping when kids are seeking, missing or avoiding sensations (sensory processing); increasing the variety and quantity of food consumed (feeding support); learning toileting, dressing or grooming skills (self-care skills); building social and play skills.
Monarch House: A cross-provincial organization dedicated to helping families with developmental delays and disabilities, they have teams of behaviour analysts, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists to provide assessments and support. Their Calgary location offers services in English, French, and Mandarin.
Nature Play: Nature Play provides group and 1:1 nature-based therapy services for children with mild-moderate needs in the areas of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. They serve children of all ages and run our programs out of a small private farm on the SW edge of the city.
Nurture, Sound & Movements – Occupational Therapy: Joanna Yuen provides family support, assessment, and treatment for children from 3 years old to 18 years old with a variety of diagnoses including Autism, Sensory Processing problems, ADHD, Developmental Coordination disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Learning Disabilities, global developmental delay, and Cortical Visual Impairment. Sees children with challenges in the areas of sensory processing /modulation, sensory regulation, emotional regulation, social thinking , social skills, and interoception. She helps improve focus and attention, executive functioning skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, oral motor skills, visual motor skills, visual perception, and handwriting. She aims to improve daily living skills and Life Skills such as dressing, brushing teeth, toileting, showering, eating, meal preparation, and household chores. Focused on Sensory Integration. Therapeutic Listening to improve tolerance to sounds. Use Brain Gym exercises to help other kids get ready to learn. Available to help kids with FSCD funding and PUF funding. School consultation available. In person sessions are available at the child’s home or in the community instead. Uses Brain Gym® exercises to help other kids ready to learn.
Peak Health Kids: This is a physiotherapy clinic offering services to support gross motor development. They believe in helping everybody achieve just a little bit more in a fun and welcoming environment. Their space provides the opportunity to work on playground skills, activities of daily living, running, jumping, and all things that kids want to do! They pride themselves in helping kids and adults reach their individual goals through education, hands-on therapy and home exercise programs. Shore, Jared: A professional at the Communication Coaching Centre, with a career spanning over two decades. His expertise lies at the intersection of occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, notably focusing on neurodiverse paediatric clients and their families. Experienced in catering to the diverse needs of clients through Specialized Services (SS) and Behavior Developmental Support (BDS) contracts. Conducting sessions in the comfort of clients’ homes or within the office. His experience as a father to two children, and an uncle to a young adult with autism, informs and inspires his work.
