Autism Calgary Association is excited to expand our team! We are looking for a creative and passionate individual who enjoys collaborating with others, and making a difference in the community working through our local activities supporting Autism Alberta’s Family Resource Centres.
Autism Alberta’s Family Resource Centres provide a range of services and supports that focus on strengthening parenting and caregiving knowledge, social support, coping and problem-solving skills, access to community supports and resources, improving child and adult development, building resiliency, and fostering well-being.
Job overview: This full-time peer support position provides emotional support, information, referrals, and system navigation to individuals and families living with Autism and other disabilities. They are a community resource to help parents, caregivers and individuals with disabilities navigate services and support in order to access the social, educational, therapeutic, and other supports they require for a successful, meaningful life.
Responsibilities:
- Connect directly with individuals and families living with disabilities, over the phone/virtually, through email, and in-person to provide them with emotional support, information, referrals, and system navigation related to their disability needs.
- Assist in goal setting, planning, and implementation of services under a Family Managed Service Agreement through the FSCD and PDD programs.
- Help to co-facilitate support groups.
- Enter case file information into the organizations’ internal database system.
- Help to keep resource listings up to date (both online and print materials).
- Work as part of a team to develop, maintain and enhance community resource manuals and documents.
- Coordinate programs and services with the Autism Calgary Family Support team, a provincial virtual Family Resource Centre network, and other province wide partners.
- Liaise with resource providers in the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Communication skills, both written and oral, that align with the task of effectively supporting a neurodiverse population.
- Direct understanding, acceptance, and respect of the lived experience of autism and other disabilities is required.
- An understanding of mental health challenges is an asset.
- Familiarity with disability-related services in Alberta, including Family Managed Services under the FSCD and PDD programs, is important.
- Must work well with different teams, and be willing to collaborate and help with duties or projects outside of the regular job responsibilities, where needed.
- Familiarity and comfort working with a computer and online virtual technologies, including GSuite and MS Office Products.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent training in a related field is beneficial.
- Access to a home office/work space and a reliable internet connection.
Autism Calgary Association will provide the right candidate a competitive salary commensurate with experience and education, alongside flexibility in schedule and a family-like team environment. The position is a combination of virtual work and in-person work at the Calgary office. The contract is temporary (for a 12-month period), with the possibility of extension based on funding.
