Please note, this temporary position pays $15.00 per hour for 35 hours per week for 12 weeks. Also, due to funding restrictions, this position is only open to individuals who are 18-30 years of age.
In 2021 Autism Calgary is embarking on an exciting Community Engagement Strategy to increase COVID recovery efforts for our the ASD community as well as our support for local, provincial and national collaborative COVID recovery efforts. The youth hired as “Community Liaison Workers” will greatly aid us in reaching out to families in need, tracking recovery and wellness calls to vulnerable individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), planning virtual social and community events to increase social inclusion, increasing our online member and volunteer engagement and uniting Calgary’s Autism Community with other diverse communities in Calgary and Alberta such as Indigenous communities in and around Calgary, Multicultural communities in Calgary and other ASD or disability communities across the province.
Duties:
The ‘Community Liaison Workers’ will aid Autism Calgary and Autism Society of Alberta members, staff, volunteers and the board of directors with the following:
1) Assist with the planning and coordination of several virtual social and community groups and events
2) Help to facilitate Peer-to-Peer social and community connections
3) Assist with the planning and coordination of Peer Mentoring activities
4) Assist with the development of engaging communications materials to help us better connect with
our community members during the pandemic and pandemic recovery period
5) Help staff to identify ways in which our services and supports can be more accessible for
multicultural, Newcomer and Indigenous community members living with ASD in Calgary and
Alberta and others who may be particularly impacted by the pandemic
6) Further develop partnerships with local multicultural community groups and Immigrant serving
agencies
7) Identify the unique experiences of multicultural persons with Autism and their families.
8) Advise on enhancing our activities, family support and other peer networking activities to address
the needs of rural families living with ASD
9) Further develop partnerships with local rural community groups and rural community serving
agencies
10) Identify the unique experiences of rural individuals and families with Autism and their families.
Requirements:
Must be a young adult aged 18-30 (funding requirement under the Canada Summer Jobs Program)
Volunteer or employment experience in the non-profit field an asset
Personal, volunteer or employment experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other disability communities an asset
Access to a home office/work space and a reliable internet connection.
