SHOULD NUTRITION BE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE IN THE TREATMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS?
Evidence ranging from ADHD to Mood Disorders to Autism

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to hear from two prominent researchers in the field of nutrition and mental health, in addition to a clinical psychiatrist’s view from the front lines:
  • Julia Rucklidge https://pilulesfrance.com/obesite/reductil-pas-cher/, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Director of the Mental Health and Nutrition Program, University of Canterbury.
Dr. Rucklidge has just published the first double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial on a vitamin-mineral treatment of ADHD in adults (http://bjp.rcpsych.org/content/early/2014/01/27/bjp.bp.113.132126.abstract).
This study has garnered much attention in the international press, and offers a viable, non-drug treatment for ADHD. She will provide an overview of research on nutrient treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Bonnie Kaplan, Ph.D., Professor, Departments of Paediatrics and Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary.
Dr. Kaplan is a well-known and respected research psychologist in Calgary whose large body of work focuses on developmental disorders. Of interest to the autism community may be her research on micronutrient supplementation (vitamins and minerals) for the treatment of mood, aggression, and explosive rage.

She will present research on public health studies of nutrition and mental illness, as a context for Dr. Rucklidge’s nutrient treatment studies.
  • Megan Rodway, M.D., Psychiatrist and Fellow of Integrative Medicine.
Experienced in both child and adult psychiatry, Dr. Rodway will compare and contrast the allopathic or conventional approach to the treatment of mental disorders with the integrative one, including the role of nutrition and supplements.
